The Daily Choice: Wooden Wand - Sideways Smile
“Sideways Smile” a new track off a new album by the nauseatingly prolific singer-songwriter J. Jackson Toth is a transmission beamed in through the busted antennae of a beat-up jalopey. It’s dusty outside, you’ve had a few too many to drink, and the acrid, scalding heat of a summer afternoon is battering the door. The track starts fuzzy, a desert ghost crawling out of the speakers, but Toth’s voice strikes in and the heat and dryness of the day is an afterthought. Instead, the striking story, one of many on this yet again, beautiful release from Toth, spins around you, characters fight, lies are told, loves are burned, tragically out.
