Rodriguez plans out a decidedly spaced out spring-long nationwide tour

It’s got to be said that local label Light in the Attic is making every other label look bad these days. Beyond re-releasing some stellar albums that didn’t get enough attention in their day and signing local bands like The Saturday Knights, they’ve been a major cog in resurgence of vinyl and catering to that segment of the market. One re-release that has payed dividends in spades for all who are involved is the stellar 1970 debut album Cold Fact by man of many musical colors Rodriguez.

We weren’t the only ones who named that re-release one of our favorite records of 2008, and with the renewed interest in Sixto Diaz Rodriguez in the States that Cold Fact has brought (he was already much-loved for it in South Africa), Light in the Attic has announced plans for a set of shows to occur across the country throughout the spring, with the west coast leg shows happening over a week in June. Seattle was lucky enough snag one of those dates at the Triple Door on June 23. Tickets for that one aren’t on sale yet, but I suspect you’ll be able to find them on the Triple Door’s snazzy new site sometime soon.

Word is, Rodriguez’s second recording from 1971 titled Coming From Reality will also be released by Light in the Attic May 5. For a modern recording of Rodriguez head on over to Daytrotter who did an exclusive session with him late last year in a Pizza Parlor. The full list of announced tour dates are below.

If you haven’t noticed, we have a thing for Rilo Kiley. The band has been a long time favorite at both Sound on the Sound homes and there have been long on-going debates as to the best Rilo Kiley song and album. We love the band so much, we even love the side-projects that it’s spawned. But it is with great glee I get to annoucne Rilo Kiley in its purest form will be touring this fall and coming to a town near you. Here are NW the dates:

Thu-Sep-06          San Francisco, CA @ Warfield Fri-Sep-07           Portland, OR @ Crystal Ballroom – MFNW 2007  Sat-Sep-08          Seattle, WA @ Showbox

No word yet who’s joining them on tour, but you can be certain Sound on the Sound will be some of the first folks in line for these tickets.
