So Much Good Music for a Sunday Night

Sunday is usually the quietest day for concerts, but not today! Tonight you have three solid choices for Sunday night shows. Even better, the shows are all within basically a block of each other, so you can do like I’m planning, and hit up a couple.

The highlight of the Sunday possibilities for me is Shane Tutmarc at The Comet. This is Shane’s first show in 7 months, since Bumbershoot, where  he played the EMP Sky Church one last time with the Traveling Mercies. Shane will be playing with a new band tonight and will be trying out his new songs from soon to be  released album, Shouting At A Silent Sky.  As one of the lucky few that already has a copy of the album, and has been playing said album basically on repeat, I can assure you that these are songs you want to be introduced to right now and not next month. Come out tonight and discover your favorite summer song, while it’s still spring.

If you’re feeling like dancing tonight, I’d recommend heading up to the Cha Cha for Chk Minus and The Beats Man. The show is free and the Cha has it’s all day Sunday happy hour going on, so not only are you going to be at a great show with some tunes you can’t help but shake your ass to,  you’re also doing so on the cheap.  It really is an all around win.

Last but not least, if you’re in the mood for some thoughtful Bay Area hip hop, head over to Neumo’s to check out the lyrical prowess of Grouch, who is joined by fellow Living Legend crew member Eligh. Grouch has been crafting some of the finest independent music in the US for years and puts on a hell of a show.

Saturday Night at the Sunset

The Beats, Man

The Beats, Man ::: Photos by Abbey

Last Saturday’s Audioasis benefit was a good time, in large part due to the efforts of opening band The Beats, Man, the newly-active laptop-based project of former Pleasureboaters Erik Baldwin and Tim Cady. Energetic, goofy, and engaging are all words I’d use to reference the performance of their funky blend of electronics, hip-hop punk and the occasional slow jam. I can’t find an mp3 of them hanging around anywhere, so you’ll just have to head on over to myspace to listen to “Freedomtown” and “Beats Mand of Horses,” and then choose from the bevy of dates they have listed that are happening in Seattle over the next month. Unless you’ve got something against loosening up and having a little fun that is.
