REVERB Recommendations

Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground  ::: photo by Abbey Simmons

64 local bands. 9 stages. 1 epic Saturday in Ballard. All thanks to the Seattle Weekly and their annual Reverb Festival. It’s a festival that’s after our own heart because it exists solely to celebrate and illustrate the wealth and breadth of Seattle’s music scene. (You can download and listen to a sample and most often a full song of all 64 Reverb artists  HERE.)

At 10$ per wristband, it’s the cheapest chance you’ll ever get to see what seems like half of the great bands playing music in Seattle today. Whatever venue you stumble into during Reverb festival, you’re bound to witness a great local act because The Weekly did an incredible job with the line-up this year. But since you can’t possibly make all 64 bands (we tried to figure out how we could, and failed) these are the bands that will have us running up and down Old Ballard Avenue. Most sets are an hour, save the final sets of the night at the larger venues, so if there are two bands  you want to see at the same time I recommend splitting the set.  25 minutes for each, allowing 5 minutes for hauling ass between venues.  (Not that I have this down to a science or anything….) That’s how I plan to make the following 21 highly recommend sets in the span of 10 hours…it’s going to be fuckin’ amazing.

3:30 - Fresh Espresso (NY Fashion Academy)
3:30 - Little Cuts (Sunset Tavern)
4:00 - Visqueen  (Eagle’s Club)
4:30 - Grynch (NY Fashion Academy)
5:30 - GMK (NY Fashion Academy)
6:00 - Brent Amaker & The Rodeo (Tractor)
7:00 - The Lonely H (Eage’s Club)
7:30 - Kaylee Cole (Conor Byrne)
7:30 - Erik Blood (Sunset)
8:00 - Thee Emergency (Eagle’s Club)
8:00 - Fences (Tractor)
8:30 - Final Spins (Sunset)
8:30 Fatal Lucciano (NY Fashion Academy)
8:30 - Shenandoah Davis (Hatties)
9:00 - Redwood Plan (Bit Saloon)
9:00 - Cute Lepers (Eage’s Club)
9:30 - Thee Satisfaction  (NY Fashion Academy)
10:00 - Widower (Tractor)

Festival Season is not over yet: Ballard’s Reverb Fest Announces Final Schedule

Named the same as the Seattle Weekly’s Music Blog, the Reverb Music Festival takes over many of the establishments on Ballard Avenue for a day long extravaganza of local music which this year is happening on Saturday October 4th. The final lineup and set times were announced this week over on the Reverb Blog, and to our delight we saw local flavor of the moment Moondoggies in the top spot at the Sunset. The line-up for the remainder of the night is varied and interesting, somehow managing to fit rapper Grayskul next to hard rockers Madraso next to 80’s hip-hop diva’s Team Gina. Also that night at the Sunset is an Audioasis broadcast featuring Police Teeth and Brother’s of the Sonic Cloth, a 1-2 punch of volume which sounds very enticing.

Maybe the best part of this particular fest is the attention to giving the minors among us a bevy of quality options. Among five venues caterting to the All-ages crowd, Mr. Spot’s Chai House will have Husbands Love Your Wives, the Triple will have Truckasaurus(!), and Salmon Bay Eagles hosts a list of excitement worthy pop bands including BOAT, Lonely Forest and Panda & Angel.

Here’s the complete list of acts:

Greyskul - Onry Ozzborn & The Gigantics - See Me River - DJ B-Girl - Truckasauras - The Braille Tapes - Wizdom - 17th Chapter - The Moondoggies - Red Jacket Mine - Little Penguins - Elder Mason - Husbands Love Your Wives - Blood Red Dancers - Man Plus - Hazelwood Motel - Michael Vermillion - Kublakai - The Lonely Forest - The Curious Mystery - Neon Nights - Emeralds - Black Whales - Thee Sgt Major III - Aqueduct - Knox Family - North Twin - Massy Ferguson - Piece - Blood Red Dancers - Man Plus - Orbitron - Canary Sing - Guns N Rossetti - Dragstrip Riot - Pufferfish - The Quit - The Rainieros - Zach Harjo - Black Whales - The Crying Shame - Bob Wayne & The Outlaw Carnies - C-Leb & A-Bro - Arbitron - Keg - Kate Tucker & The Sons Of Sweden - Little Penguins - Lonesome Rhodes & The Good Company - The Monday Mornings - Rypynt - Truckasauras - Shim - Panda & Angel - At The Spine - The Valkyries - Sage - Herman Jolly - Police Teeth - Team Gina - Gatling Gees - Bacchus - Mono In VCF - Ian Moore - Trombone Cake - Sweet Potatoes - Diminished Men - Boat - Brothers of the Sonic Cloth - Madraso

See a detailed list of set times and get cheap tickets over at the REVERB Fest site.
