The Lonely H at Reverb Fest 2009 ::: Photo by Abbey Simmons
October seems light-years away even in the waning Seattle “summer” of 2010, but it really is just right around the corner. Ushering in October will be Seattle Weekly’s always excellent Reverb Fest held October 9th all over Ballard. Yet again, Reverb has brought together one of the most solid and diverse local line-ups of any festival. Name your genre and there’s something at Reverb for you, especially if you like up-and-coming local rock. Reverb reads like a who’s-who of some of our favorite new heavy bands of 2010: Hobosexual, Dog Shredder, My Goodness, The Absolute Monarchs, Wild Orchid Children, Vultures 2012 and What What Now, to name a few. For that, I’m sure we can thank Rocket Queen, Hannah Levin. Even if you don’t like your tunes turned up all the way to 11, Reverb Fest is a celebration of all that is local that you don’t want to miss.
The full line-up as it stands today is below, we’ve bolded the bands we’ll make sure we don’t miss.

Major III / Imperial Legions Of Rome / Combo Craig / M Bison / The Moonspinners / Massey Ferguson / DJ Dev From Above / Idle Times / Watch It Sparkle / The Chevy Chasers / Dawn Clement / Wild Orchid Children / Gregory Paul / Virgin / Lindsay Fuller & The Cheap Dates / Bernie Jacobs Quartet / Throne Of Bone / Roy Kay Combo / The Drunken Masters / Whalebones / Carrie Clark & The Lonesome Lovers / Kinski / Caspar Babypants / Yuni In Taxco / Post Harbor / Ivan & Alyosha / Vultures 2012 / Feral Children / Eighty 4 Fly / Helladope / Hi-Life Sound System / The Not-Its / Lincoln Barr / Ravenna Woods / Shelby Earl / Lisa Dank / Sol / The Absolute Monarchs / Kristen Ward / Goat / Amateur Radio Operator / My Goodness / Low Land High / Thousands / Sparrow-Bot / What What Now / The Young Evils / He Whose Ox Is Gored / The Fucking Eagles / Kimo Muraki / The Jason Parker Quartet / Erin Jorgensen / Low Hums / Smooth Sailing / Hobosexual / Dog Shredder / Victor Shade / Cady Wire / JFK aka Ninjaface / The Sea Navy / EXOHXO

A Wink from Dita Vox ::: photo by Abbey Simmons
This photo of Dita Vox of Thee Emergency may be my favorite picture I took from all of Reverb Festival. For me, concert photography is as much showing a mood as it is capturing a split second moment. Since you get a lot more chances at taking shots that portray a mood, that’s more my strong suit. So I’m especially pleased to have caught this, a perfect split second moment.

Almighty REVERBfest is smashing in to Ballard this weekend and I wanted to spend the next few days just hyping up a few of the bands I’m most excited for. And how can I not start with BOAT? I discovered this trio of pop-fueled loonies at Bumbershoot two years ago and I recall their set involved polos and a slinky. Their first album Songs That You Might Not Like was a rip-roaring, at times slightly annoying, peek in to exactly what this trio is capable of. I was one of few people in my friend group who truly enjoyed the album, but justification came with Lets Drag Our Feet, a far more mature, even more entertaining slice of just what BOAT had to offer - pop filtered through lunacy. I haven’t had a chance to listen to the recent TOPP EP they released, but I can tell you this, you’ll be happy you saw these guys.
They play at 8:00 at the mysteriously named, Salmon Bay Eagles.
Be there, or be f’n square.

Truckasaurus at Sasquatch ::: Photo by Josh
Named the same as the Seattle Weekly’s Music Blog, the Reverb Music Festival takes over many of the establishments on Ballard Avenue for a day long extravaganza of local music which this year is happening on Saturday October 4th. The final lineup and set times were announced this week over on the Reverb Blog, and to our delight we saw local flavor of the moment Moondoggies in the top spot at the Sunset. The line-up for the remainder of the night is varied and interesting, somehow managing to fit rapper Grayskul next to hard rockers Madraso next to 80’s hip-hop diva’s Team Gina. Also that night at the Sunset is an Audioasis broadcast featuring Police Teeth and Brother’s of the Sonic Cloth, a 1-2 punch of volume which sounds very enticing.
Maybe the best part of this particular fest is the attention to giving the minors among us a bevy of quality options. Among five venues caterting to the All-ages crowd, Mr. Spot’s Chai House will have Husbands Love Your Wives, the Triple will have Truckasaurus(!), and Salmon Bay Eagles hosts a list of excitement worthy pop bands including BOAT, Lonely Forest and Panda & Angel.
Here’s the complete list of acts:
Greyskul - Onry Ozzborn & The Gigantics - See Me River - DJ B-Girl - Truckasauras - The Braille Tapes - Wizdom - 17th Chapter - The Moondoggies - Red Jacket Mine - Little Penguins - Elder Mason - Husbands Love Your Wives - Blood Red Dancers - Man Plus - Hazelwood Motel - Michael Vermillion - Kublakai - The Lonely Forest - The Curious Mystery - Neon Nights - Emeralds - Black Whales - Thee Sgt Major III - Aqueduct - Knox Family - North Twin - Massy Ferguson - Piece - Blood Red Dancers - Man Plus - Orbitron - Canary Sing - Guns N Rossetti - Dragstrip Riot - Pufferfish - The Quit - The Rainieros - Zach Harjo - Black Whales - The Crying Shame - Bob Wayne & The Outlaw Carnies - C-Leb & A-Bro - Arbitron - Keg - Kate Tucker & The Sons Of Sweden - Little Penguins - Lonesome Rhodes & The Good Company - The Monday Mornings - Rypynt - Truckasauras - Shim - Panda & Angel - At The Spine - The Valkyries - Sage - Herman Jolly - Police Teeth - Team Gina - Gatling Gees - Bacchus - Mono In VCF - Ian Moore - Trombone Cake - Sweet Potatoes - Diminished Men - Boat - Brothers of the Sonic Cloth - Madraso
