What Made Milwaukee Famous at the Crocodile Cafe ::: Photo by Josh
For a limited time Barsuk Records is offering a five song EP from Austin band What Made Milwaukee Famous for free, through their website and through emusic. Yes, you heard that right. For the price of zero. Never one to turn down free, I will admit have downloaded and enjoyed this “Sugarhill Sessions” EP already myself.
Tonight us lucky ducks in Seattle also get a chance to see What Made Milwaukee Famous at our own Chop Suey with LA pop sensations the Little Ones and Oklahoma’s Other Lives. It’s one of the better Monday shows these parts have seen in a while and a show I’d highly recommend. The show however is not free and is $12 at the door.

Peter and the Wolf at SXSW 2007
Peter and the Wolf at Daytrotter. These guys were great at SXSW and I’m dissapointed I missed their Triple door show, but their is only so much time in the day. Leader Red Hunter utilizes many unusual instruments to create a unique folk sound, but he’s no slouch as a singer either. Highly recommended. While you’re there check out the Little Ones session too. They’ll be opening for Kaiser Chiefs and the Walkmen at the Showbox this Wednesday, which is probably where I’ll be, early of course to catch the Little Ones.
Sasquatch Update. Clinic has cancelled their entire tour, Sasquatch included. So-Cal Hip Hoppers Ozomatli has been moved to Saturday. As the dates approach it’s setting in just how money this weekend will be. Festival of the summer in my humble opinion, so don’t be the poser that missed it.
Menomena annouces June and July tour dates. They’ll be in Seattle June 1 at Neumos and in Vancouver June 2 at the Red Room. I suggest you buy your ticket as soon as possible, as this is one of the hottest acts of 2007 no question. Full tour dates below the fold, including a date with the Decemberists.

Microsoft is marketing the hell out of the Zune and as a result there is all sorts of promotional stuff related to Zune going on in Seattle for the next little while. Lineout has the goods on how to get into the Little Ones, Small Sins show tonight at Neumos for free courtesy of Microsoft.

Tonight is our show of the week featuring The Long Winters, Tapes n’ Tapes, and “Awesome.” It’s at the UW HUB (student union) ballroom which I haven’t been to since I was a wee freshman. The Long Winters have the best release of 2006 in SOTS’s humble opinion and they have a live show to match it. Tapes n’ Tapes have one of our favorite releases of 2005 and “Awesome” are local up-and-comers with an energetic live show (so I hear).
Hopefully I can get my new camera figured out and get some sweet pictures for you guys.
On a related note: Damn you fate! Why did you have to choose the Little Ones to play in seattle tonight. I guess I will have to settle for the Live Performance on KEXP at 2pm.

Let’s start the morning off right with some local stuff.
Chris Walla, guitarist of Death Cab for Cutie, and busy northwest music producer, has been working on a solo album. Originally scheduled for a spring 2007 release it has been pushed back to “September or so.”
Seattlest has already seen two shows this week. Even though Chan (pronounced “Shawn”) is sober, she is still as crazy as ever. And the Dears were not inspiring.
Nick Lachey, of Jessica Simpson fame, has bought a stake in the Tacoma Rainers, a Mariners farm team.
The Seattle Weekly does a short feature on the Little Ones who are playing tonight at Neumos with Small Sins. They have definitely been the benefactor of quite a bit of (well-deserved) music blog hype this year:
“Blogs can’t break bands,” Reyes says. “But they do offer the opportunity to be heard.” The singer insists that touring is still the best way to establish a career in the music biz, which is why he and the rest of the Little Ones plan on spending the time they’re not using to complete their debut full-length on the road. “We’re grateful every night to be playing in front of people,” he says, “because we know how fucking hard it is to get a show.”"Blogs can’t break bands,” Reyes says. “But they do offer the opportunity to be heard.” The singer insists that touring is still the best way to establish a career in the music biz, which is why he and the rest of the Little Ones plan on spending the time they’re not using to complete their debut full-length on the road. “We’re grateful every night to be playing in front of people,” he says, “because we know how fucking hard it is to get a show.”
