KEXP’s Concerts at The Mural

by

Just in case you missed the announcement, KEXP has released their annual free summer shows at the Mural line-up, as well as who will be playing their annual summer BBQ. KEXP’s chosen a number of Sound on the Sound favorites to perform including Grand Hallway, The Head and the Heart and BBQ headliners, The Lonely Forest. There’s still a big hole in the schedule, with their entire August 13th Mural show TBA, we’ll update you on that date when we know who will be playing.

The mural shows are a perfect after work, get-your-Friday-started-early stop, so bring a picnic blanket and a few dollars for a PBR tallboy and plan ahead one Friday and see some great local music for free courtesy of KEXP.

The Weekend Approaches

by

It’s a summer weekend so you should be outside at one or all of the following events:

kexp bbq 2007

Last year’s KEXP BBQ was hot and featured four sweet bands and this year’s is no different. That is except they have five sweet bands this go around. Just remember that you may have to wait for a half-hour to get a hot dog once everyone arrives. Here’s the important info:

 * August 18, 2007. Doors at 2pm, show starts at 3pm.      * All ages, Bar w/ ID (please bring your ID)      * Tickets are $20 presale and $25 at the door.      * Tickets at BrownPaperTickets.com, all Silver Platters, and all        Brown Paper Tickets Outlets.      * NO RE-ENTRY      * Food and Beverages will be available for purchase (provided by        Ballard Brothers Burgers: meat, vegetarian and vegan options available)            o No outside food or beverages permitted      * Cash Only (please come prepared, as there is no re-entry)      * Lawn chairs and blankets are permitted – although space may be        Limited

Seattle Hempfest 2007

Happening both Saturday and Sunday is the largest pro-hemp gathering in the country, Hempfest. You’ll be treated to appropriately named bands like Fred Green, Jah Levi & the Higher Reasoning, Phat Sidy Smokehouse (who go on at 4:20 on Saturday), and of course Los Marijuanos. The whole event is down on the water, so a cool breeze makes wading through an ocean of stinky hippies a managable process. It’s kind of a strange place and time where a brownie is never just a brownie, marijuana tattoo’s actually look like a good idea and where stoners and police officers rub shoulders without handcuffs being involved. Note: Just so you know, the whole marijuana leaf necklace thing was played out years ago, and a marijuana leaf tattoo is never a good idea, so don’t look like an idiot.

Finally, tonight is the 100th Anniversary Celebration for the Pike Place Market. Starting at 6pm in the itty-bitty park at the north end of the Market, buskers and local music notables will be performing. Members of Pearl Jam, Harvey Danger, Dept of Energy, the Presidents of the USA and Sera Cahoone will be there. The real start of the night for me though is Artis the Spoonman. Music festivities start at 6pm tonight.
