Matthew E. White’s “One Of These Days” is the type of song that would up-end the filmic vocabulary of what makes a good sex-scene song. Oh sure, you could take your time trying to find some nugget of 90s r&b that would clearly state the act that’s about to happen. Yet some sonically gifted director would hear “One Of These Days” and hear Matthew E. White’s low croon and hear the simple and sweet combination of strings and horns and brushed drums that fill the background and they’d think about two people underneath the sheets on some warm late-summer afternoon. The light might be hitting just right through the window, there’d probably be a handful of scattered clothes strewn across the floor, and as the room got steamier, the conversation less words then noise, Matthew E. White’s “One Of These Days” would start to drip from the speakers. It wouldn’t be your candle-light sex-romp, oh no, it’d be slow and sweet and just a little sad.
