Punks on Mars are a deceptive lot. Upon first listen you hear the 80s, all coked-up teens head banging to Tom Tom Club. Give it a second to expand, to move past Pretty In Pink and 16 Candles and it Punks on Mars “Showers of Pain” actually takes a step backward in time, time machine-mutating in to a hybrid between the sugar-coated pop of the 80s and the more hollow-eyed guitar noodling of say Television. It’s a terribly catchy song that seems to get better and better with each trip down the rabbit hole.
