The Daily Choice: Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti – Only In My Dreams

It’s nice to know that someone like Ariel Pink is laying down track in the near-mainstream of modern music. Oh sure there’s plenty of weirdos pumping out the jams right now, plenty of avant-garde aficionados who are swimming along in the deepest parts of the sonic ocean, unbeknownst to the musical population at large. But here’s Ariel Pink weaving together the disparate threads of music (here funk, here King Crimson, here another baffling selection from a magical bag of genres defied) in to a not just palatable mix, but a downright genius, wholly original sound somehow turned accesible to the masses. If anyone can be crowned a bushwhacker of modern music, let us throw that gleaming hat on the head of Ariel Pink, then turn the track up loud and get to shaking our collective asses.
Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti new album Mature Themes came out yesterday on 4AD.
