The Daily Choice: Tame Impala – Apocalypse Dreams

by

3 reasons why you’re excited that Tame Impala has a new single out:

1. It’s produced by master of grinning noise himself Dave Fridmann, meaning that even though Tame Impala beat the odds and got huge, the single still makes me want to take my clothes off and run in to a field even though I know I’ll probably get a tick in an uncomfortable area of my body and someone will have to burn it off with their cigarette while I cringe and hold someone’s hand.

2. If I had a choice I’d want Tame Impala to only make their first album, over and over again. Since this of course is beyond silly, I’ll take the mild bit of progression that is “Modular People.” It still has the hazy trip feel of everything from Innervision, but it’s just a little bit sunnier, the darker shadows of psych perhaps relegated to an corner for an album or two.

3. It’s a six minute long psych-burner that just builds and builds and builds layers of smiley, happy joy, before breaking down in to squinty eyed, slack-jawed, freakout. Which means, awesome.

Tame Impala’s new album Lonerism comes out on Modular in October.
