The Daily Choice: Dylan Shearer – Afterwhile

by

It is always fascinating to peruse the wide spectrum of music currently available from this great city of San Francisco, and to note the various influences that, I believe, are more clearly apparent than ever before. The garage rock kids, the Joy Division kids, the sneering late 70s punk-rock kids – it’s all here, congregated in small patches. Dylan Shearer though, has avoided the obvious influences, settling upon a sort of homage to 70s-folk-pop, imbued with a gentle brushing of the knobs and cords of his bedroom recording set-up. This is a rebirth of psych-pop, gentle and happily-drugged, wide-eyed and staring at the sun. It’s a gorgeous cloud of an album, one I wholeheartedly recommend.

Empty Cellar Records will release Shearer’s album Porchpuddles tomorrow, June 19th.
