The Daily Choice: Zorch – Cosmic Gloss

by

There’s something about Zorch that reminds me just slightly of Yeasayer when they made the change from freak-rock oddities to Burning Man soundtrack kids.  I’m posting about Zorch though so the similarities are very very slight.  Zorch is playing a strung out sort of long-form kind of electronic psych rock that dillies and dallies its way in to a more melodic, pop sound, but the band doesn’t lose itself in the melodies.  There’s a nice solid bit of experimentation that weaves its way through the song and it helps to paste the song together in a herky-jerky fashion that gets my ears perked.  I imagine Zorch, with all of the layer upon layer of instrumental makes an incredibly dynamic live show, the kind that has eleven members and two auxiliary drummers pounding away.  It’s just that kind of music.

Zorch just released a cassette on Altered Zones.  Or you can check out there material here.
