Brittney’s Occasional Choice: Bry Webb - “Rivers of Gold”

It was a cruel, cruel summer waiting for news of Constantines frontman Bry Webb’s upcoming solo release, feeding only on whispers, ignoring rumors it had been shelved, fueling on hope. Now at last and in swift succession we’ve been given an album release date, tour details, and a lead single.
“Rivers of Gold” sees Webb fully embrace his inner Neil Young with a spacious, haunting ballad of the Canadian wilderness borne of his work in the National Parks Project. “I was swimming in a sky-falling river. I was driven by the sound. I was waking up early in the morning. I was sleeping on the ground. I was walking in a crater of diamond.” Drenched in steel guitar and warmed by Webb’s lightly reverberating vocals, “Rivers of Gold” creates a languorous and immersive dreamscape that begs for the “repeat” button. It’s stunning introduction to Webb’s new project and an exciting hint of what’s to come.
