Vinyl Drive this Wednesday for Brian Yeager of Cute Lepers

1600x1200

Were any of us to suffer the loss that Cute Lepers’ Brian Yeager did, the total destruction of his home and nearly all of his belongings, we could only hope that we had friends like his. While on tour with Cute Lepers this September, Yeager’s Queen Anne home caught fire and he lost nearly everything that hadn’t come with him on the road including seven guitars, his cat and his treasured record collection. This Wednesday (tomorrow night) at Lava Lounge, Yeager’s friend Kerri Harrop has organized a vinyl drive to begin to restore his record collection. She’s put the call out beyond friends of Yeager’s, to all local vinyl lovers and DJs and anyone else who feels sick to their stomach just imagining a lifetime of music burning. (So, to pretty much all of us.)

Here’s what Harrop has to say about Yeager’s record collection and how you can help.

Brian Yeager is a man of good taste. His record collection was large, and impressive. And, while he was smart enough to have insurance, that loss will not be fully covered by the corporate hounds.

Besides, any of y’all that also love records know this to be true: it takes a long fucking time to establish your vinyl library. The thought of rebuilding it from scratch is daunting, at best.

Milton, the insurance agent, informed Brian that, “Vinyl records depreciate with time.” Clearly, Milton does not own any original Rolling Stones wax, or limited edition 7″ singles.

So, here’s the deal: I am hosting a RECORD DRIVE FOR BRIAN YEAGER. It’s real simple: come by, have some drinks, and bring a record or two or three or ten for my homie.

This is not your chance to dump vinyl you’ll never listen to, because its terrible. This is your chance as a music lover to help another music lover out, whether you know him or not. We don’t and we’re going to try and bring by an album or two that meets the donation criteria:

Here is the kind of music Brian likes: GOOD. You know, rock & roll and sweet soul music and punky stuff and other cool shit. Let your conscience be your guide. If you can’t think of anything, or don’t have extras to spare, a gift certificate to Easy Street or Sonic Boom would be nice.

The vinyl drive starts tomorrow at 8pm at Lava Lounge and Greg Vandy of KEXP’s Roadhouse and Kerri Harrop (DJ Cherry Canoe) will be spinning their own enviable vinyl collections. You can find additional details about the drive on the Facebook event page.
