The Daily Choice: Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Walking In Unison

Eddy Current Suppression Ring, in relative terms, have been firing beams of blistering garage rock from the rocky climes of Australia for a good while. With most bands, hell every band, as soon as the first album is cooling on the rack I’m already worried that the second album isn’t going to be able capture the magic and mystery and surprise that cut me off at the knees originally. There are only a handful of bands that I continue to grow excited about their second album let alone third, fourth and beyond. Eddy Current Suppression Ring is one of those bands.
I don’t know what magical inspiration drink has been bubbling about Australia lately, but Eddy Current Suppression Ring has downed a healthy dose. ”Walking In Unison” is a mammoth 10-minute cut that continues the bands slow deconstruction of garage rock. Where older songs held on to illusions like melody and choruses, “Walking In Unison” is a squinty-eyed death march of rhythm. It doesn’t pulse or shine or glow, it trudges towards climax, raucous noise the inevitable conclusion. Eddy Current, I continue to eagerly await whatever comes next.
“Walking In Unison” can be found ably filling an entire side of a new 12″ out on Captcha.
