The Daily Choice: Sic Alps - Breadhead
Sic Alps has been in a massive state of flux as of late. Band members getting booted leaving in the middle of tours, band members returning, celebrity guest stars filling in the slots of departed band members and at the end of the day, Mike Donovan plugging away as a strange, little band called Sic Alps. I really, really wanted to buy in to the drama of the situation and totally dislike the new 7″ by the band, but it turns out that with a scattered cast of characters there avante-folk-pop still rings entirely true in my head. Sure, the new sound leans a little heavier on the old rock and roll stick, but the basic tenants of what I love about Sic Alps remain. Could this be a final dangling bit of the old magic though, jettisoned in to the sonic abyss by Drag City before the new sound emerges to fill the void? Seems we’ll find out soon enough.
