The Daily Choice: Black Gum – Single Life

I’ve been sort of submerged in a lot of weirder, cruisier, darker music lately and it is a refreshing breath of air to have a purely catchy song reach down in to the murk and drag my ass back in to the sunshine. Austin’s Black Gum is just that sort of life preserver. There’s a surfy riff, and a splashy bit of drum play and the vocals raggedly match up in a sort of riff-raff style harmony and just looks you in the eye and says, “move.” And you should. Your knees, your neck, your head, your hair – get ‘em all moving.
Black Gum just put out a cassette on Monofonus Press.
