Police Teeth “Rock n Roll is a Pyramid Scheme Parts 1 & 2″

2905587235-1

Police Teeth? Ugh. Good grief. This song is from their upcoming album Awesomer Than The Devil which will be available to all earthlings on April 26th, courtesy of Latest Flame Records. Between this album and BOAT’s Dress Like Your Idols, I’ve been enjoying some of the Pacific Northwest’s catchiest tunes as of late. Listen to the sample at the beginning of the song. Do you recognize that? That’s a lyric from Partman Parthorse’s Emerald City Dollar Bin. Probably the best “indie rock diss track” ever created. It is also one of my favorite songs last year. Cheers to Police Teeth for having a sense of humor and using the sample to introduce one of their strongest compositions on Awesomer Than The Devil. I like when a band takes their music seriously but aren’t too into themselves to ruin it. Let’s be honest, rock and roll is a pyramid scheme. I never compared creating music to longshot, getting rich quick shenanigans until I heard this song. I never made that comparison because I am over the age of 12 and I realize that if you want to be rich, the last thing you do is become a musician.  When a priest takes a vow of poverty, they are wealthier than most musicians I know. Once upon a time, I thought the richest people in the world were rockstars by default, so the notion of conquering a structural hierarchy of wealth does resonate quite a bit. Ah, to be young and naive again as opposed to being old and constantly under-achieving. If rock and roll is a pyramid scheme it’s one of the “zero common sense, what is normalcy, facing starvation, loneliness, sickness, ruining of loving relationships, possible snickering from family members, falling in lust, falling in love, hating your band-mates, buying your band-mates drinks, tour problems, being trapped in a parallel universe, insomnia, recreational usage of chemicals not naturally produced by your body, how am I going to shower, tattoos are expensive, annoying sound-guys, stolen gear, lost merchandise, wrought by self-doubt and unplanned masochistic behavior because you don’t mind screwing up your hearing at an early age” pyramid schemes. I don’t know about you, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Enjoy.
