While the rest of the internet freaks out (positively and negatively) about the Arcade Fire winning Album of the Year, we here at Sound on the Sound are much more excited about a local, deserving Grammy winner: Kory Kruckenberg.

Kory, who we best know as a local sound engineer extraordinaire, is responsible and mentioned by name in more than a few of our best of lists, as well as being the bassist for Pablo Trucker and Pickwick’s vibraphone master. As of last night, he can add “Grammy Winner” to his resume; as Kory took home the trophy in “Best Engineered Album, Classical.” While we haven’t heard his Grammy Award winning work, we’ve long been fans of Kory’s adept hands and ears which have been behind some of our favorite recent local records including: The Maldives’ Listen to the Thunder, Avians Alight, Pickwick, J. Tillman and Pearly Gate Music. Congratulations Kory!

Kory is selfless and brilliant. I’ve had the good fortune of working with him on countless sessions since 2006. He never gives anything but his best work, truly committing to the project in front of him. As an engineer, no one with is more reliable, capable, and trustworthy than Kory. I am very lucky to have him as a bandmate and a friend. Way to go, Kory!!!

Kory embodies all that is great about playing music in Seattle. Despite his growing list of accomplishments he still remains one of the most giving and humble people I have ever had the good fortune of knowing. He’s a tremendously talented engineer, but he’s an even better person. I feel so honored to work with him and to call him a friend. Love ya dude.

  3. I wasn’t sure if “one of the nicest fellows I’ve ever met” was appropriate in the headline, but it is doubtlessly true. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving or wonderful dude.

and since we’re signing our names here,

I have known Kory for a long time. Way back in the static days for those of you who are old school). He is not only the best bass player I have had the pleasure of playing with, but he is also a great person. I always knew he would be famous someday :)

    Congratulations Kory.
