The Daily Choice: Navajo Bixby - Down Under

I’ve been digging deep in to a lot of mid-1950s Sun Records country music, Carl Perkins especially, and I can’t help but notice the similarities that exist between the honky-tonk sounds of Perkins and company and the breezy tropical sounds of, well, tropical artists. Thus, it comes as even more pleasant surprise to hear these similar genre-bending hooks on this stellar new track from New Jersey’s own Navajo Bixby. Sure this sort honky-tonk Hawaiian sound Navajo Bixby does such a fantastic job incorporating is shot through with the sort of stoner guitar grunge that seems to populate the edges of everything these days, but goddamn if it doesn’t help just a little in easing the pain of a quickly fading summer.
