The Yester-Daily Choice: The Kinks - The Last Of The Steam-Powered Trains

I have this giant notion running about in my head lately about the circular nature of, well everything, but in this case, music. It involves the advent of digital music, the push for everything new all the time, and of course the rabid, teeth-bared snarl of the blogosphere. It’s a whopper if I don’t say so myself.
But, I turned on my old copy of The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society this morning and thoughts about new spirals and i-pods faded to the wayside, and just sat in pure enjoyment of this jaunty, bizarre little album. The album, inspired by Ray Davies trip to Devon, a sleepy hamlet in rural England, discusses the passing of the countries English traditions.
There are jauntier tracks on this album, especially the title track, a bouncy ride down a country road, but this track always strikes me. One part country, one part tiny English village, one part American hee-haw.
