The Daily Choice: Mean Jeans - Tears In My Beers

I’ve been slightly, and obsessively, irked with the critical world’s love of placing the word “smart” in front of genres to separate them from their less intellectual siblings.   “Smart action-films”, “smart punk rock”, “smart pornography” - we’re a culture ashamed of our more base tendencies.  So lets all be thankful for Mean Jeans.

Portland’s Mean Jean’s hearken back to the three chord power-pop-punk of a little leather-clad band called The Ramones.  There’s nothing to intellectualize as this is just raucous, beer-soaked punk-n-roll.  A dirty tumble down the mean streets of grit and grime.

It may reference tears, but this one is all grins.
