The Daily Choice: Bear In Heaven - Werewolf (VIDEO)

Bear In Heaven - Werewolf from Hometapes on Vimeo.

There is a startling dichotomy at work in Bear In Heaven’s hilarious video for “Werewolf”:

1. This is the hilarious type of video that you would send to your friends via email in mass form. This video is funny to me like someone getting conked in the testicles with a football is funny to me. This is cat’s spinning on record players or elephant’s giving birth entertaining. I watched it once by my lonesome, chortling away, and then sent it to my interweb-lovin’ roomie and then we watched it again and chortled even more. Salad eating werewolves fighting vampires? I’m still laughing a little.

2. Yet, when it comes to most online video laugh-fests, there’s a daunting lack of content and substance. Though I chuckle at kittens falling off tables, after a perusal or two I’m bored or annoyed or begging for Youtube to collapse in on itself. Yet this Bear in Heaven song “Werewolf” is pretty damn good. It certainly reminds me of the new found love of jagged neon objects those kids today are feeling, but it also is a sprawling epic of a song, somewhere between electronica and psych-rock. A distangled mess of a song that comes together in pounding drums and space-like bleeps. This is not the short-lived enjoyment of “Water Birth”, this is the real deal.
