The Daily Choice: Brian Eno & Harmonia - Trace

Just when you think you’ve got Brian Eno and his massive catalog pinned down, all of sudden some strangers from a foreign land place a manila envelope with strange electronic rumblings from 1976 caterwauling about inside.  Brian Eno met Harmonia (featuring members of Cluster of Neu) in ‘76 and this, something of a “ambient classic” was crafted.

I usually stay as far away from “ambient classics” as possible, but Brian Eno is a maniacal genius and I just couldn’t help but dig in to an obscure reissue of his.  And what I found was a collection of songs that had me feeling like I was a cyborg, stuck in an elevator, malfunctioning slightly after downing a case of whip-its.  It was fuzzy, and sort of robotic, but also kind of soothing, like a fake beach, with an LED sun and plastic palm trees.
