Without question, the album I have been crushing on the most over the past few weeks is 2008′s 3 Rounds, And a Sound by Portland’s Blind Pilot. Originally conceived as a duo that biked from gig to gig down the west coast pulling their own gear, Blind Pilot is now a nine piece collective complete with two violins, banjo, a pedal-steel and a xylophone. Even with such a large grouping, if I had to describe Blind Pilot in a single word, the word would be ‘intimate.’ Per usual on Monday the Triple Door provided the ideal setting for such a band, a place where one can properly appreciate the restrained nuance and warmth of each instrument and voice.

Under the fold find the dates for the nationwide March tour surrounding SXSW that I don’t think they’ll be doing on bikes, and a trailer for a forthcoming documentary called We Are The Tide which documents last year’s reprise of bike tour down the west coast, where four of them biked from Bellingham to San Diego.
