These Things Do Matter
So I’m a nerd in a big way. When this CD arrived in the mail today I just had to listen to it right away:

Not only is the art direction on this case great, but they added a hollowed out 5-inch floppy disk to hold the CD. Rad!
And after listening to it, I’ve decided it’s strangely great. By Seattle’s The Popular Monsters, the new Rock Paper Schism! EP strongly recalls the Mountain Goats minimalist instrumental aesthetic and John Darnielle’s descriptive lyrical style (and occasional vocal flourish).
You can listen to the entire EP at The Popular Monsters’ myspace page.

Digg This!

Josh you and I are nerds of a feather. When I first checked out these guy’s website (at your insistence) the first thing I flipped over the was the word-play in the cd and it’s vivid art work. Then I fell for the John Darnielle lyrics and voice…an exciting find indeed!

p.s. let another mountain goats nerd chime in: the popular monsters are pretty great. i wish they’d send me a promo (hint, hint).
