Becca’s Best of ‘07
[Editor's Note: I asked close friend, sometimes contributer and non-music-blogger type but well informed Seattle music fan becca to send me her best music of 2007 list. Enjoy. -josh ]
Becca’s Best of ’07 - With No Britney Spears!
Or
Seriously, Rolling Stone? Britney Spears in your Top 50 Albums of the year? Britney Spears? Have you gone MAD?!?
But I digress…
Top 5 Songs:
1. “Heretics”- Andrew Bird. It’s so beautiful, it gives me chills every time I listen to it. I am completely obsessed with this song.
2. “International Hater (I Hate Kobe)”- Bhi Bhiman. I have to credit Bhi Bhiman for one thing, besides this song being awesome: even though he -and God apparently- are Warriors fan (and I am a spurs fan myself), we both think Kobe Bryant is the root of all evil, and we both agree that the Lakers are the minions of Satan. It is a brilliant, brilliant song.
3. “In the Mausoleum”- Beirut. I have hear this on KEXP a lot lately, and although “Nantes” is the big single from this album, I believe that this song is the best on The Flying Cup, by far. It’s just so darn purty.
4. “Go Into the Water”- Dethklok. for those of you who haven’t seen Metalocalypse, you may not appreciate just how cool this song IS. I highly suggest you rent season 1 on DVD- it’ll blow you away.
5. “Sushi”- A Gun That Shoots Knives. The best tribute to sushi you’d find anywhere. I laughed, I sang, I boogied.
Honorable Mention:
“Jesus Lips”- Hopskotch Boys
“Talkin Nascar”- Bhi Bhiman
“Mimosa”- We Wrote the Book on Connectors
Top 5 shows:
1. Ghostland Observatory - 10/12/07 @ the Showbox
2. The Police - 6/6/07 Key Arena- Proof that Stewart Copeland is still God.
3. The Figurines - 11/1/07@ the Crocodile
4. Fionn Reagan - 7/31/07@ The Sunset Tavern
5. Ween - 10/12/07 @ The Paramount
Honorable Mention:
-Brotherhood of the Drum w/ Matt Cameron and Jason McGerr (Night 2)- 4/26/07@ The Tractor Tavern
-A Gun That Shoots Knives, We Wrote the Book On Connectors- 5/19/07 @ The Blue Moon
Top 5 Albums
1. Beirut - The Flying Club Cup
2. Dethklok - The Dethalbum - (the only metal I have ever, EVER loved.)
3. Fields - Everything Last Winter
4. Fionn Reagan - The End of History
5. Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha
Honorable Mention:
- Pearl Jam - Live at the Gorge 05/06 (Box Set). Being um… me, I figured I had to sneak some PJ into this list somehow. Not only does this Box Set (which is also Pearl Jam’s first) rock, but so do I: you can hear me in the crowd on all seven CD’s contained in the set, because I attended all three of those monumental Gorge shows. Rock on! However, since it’s a Box Set, it really doesn’t qualify for this category. Bummer.
- Wilco - Sky Blue Sky. I have to say, I truly fell in love with this album when I first heard it, and pretty much had it on constant rotation in my car for three months. Then, I heard the entire album on every f*cking Volkswagen commercial I saw on Television. Wilco selling out makes me sad, but it doesn’t mean that I still can’t love this album, because it’s really, really good.

Digg This!

I CAN’T believe I forgot to include the National on this list! D’oh!

I can’t believe no one put Zoo Keeper in any of their lists. Maybe I was just too much of a Mineral fan in High School, but I think his EP was my favorite release of 2007.

Josh really really liked that album, i’m surprised it didn’t make one of his lists either Britt.
We’ll see you tomorrow!!

Zookeeper’s “I live in the Mess you are”, probably should have been on my favorite songs list. That was a great EP. It actually came out in 2006 in the end of December though.

Some respectable people liked the Britney album too. I saw one on a list today as I was browsing around. I won’t name names though.
